Following our call for nominations for a charity that deserves a boost, we’re delighted to announce the names of the three good causes that have made it onto our shortlist.
It’s now down to you to cast your vote for your favourite. In the second round of our Proud to be Local campaign this year, we’re giving away another £500 to the winning charity or community group.
You have until midnight on Sunday 17th June to cast your vote and affect the outcome, and voting couldn’t be easier. You can either: visit our depot in Kingsfold and post a token in the voting box; click your chosen group on the poll at the top of our Facebook page; or email [email protected] and put the name of the group in the subject line. Duplicate votes from the same email account will not be counted.
We’ll then have the lovely task of contacting the winning charity on Friday 29th June to arrange a convenient time to deliver the cheque.
As ever, we were impressed with all the nominations we received from members of the public outlining the tireless efforts of local people who help to make our community a great place to live.
The three causes that have been shortlisted for June’s round of funding are:
Slinfold CE Primary School
Slinfold CE Primary School is a small village church school with 150 pupils. It’s looking to refurbish two satellite classrooms and will need £35,000 to transform them into inviting, pleasant places to learn. Unfortunately, government cut backs in recent years mean that schools have little in the way of money to carry out remedial works, and finding funds is incredibly difficult. The school is currently running a fundraising campaign to undertake this work and £500 would make a huge difference.
Southwater Youth Project
Southwater Youth Project runs youth clubs, after school clubs and holiday activities for children and young people in Southwater. It would like £500 to invest in resources for its clubs including renovating the pool table, buying new pool balls and cues, and purchasing a Nintendo switch with games.
Holbrook Animal Rescue
Holbrook Animal Rescue is a family-run, non-profit organisation based in Horsham, set up to help provide loving new homes for animals including dogs and cats. The £500 would go towards maintaining its facilities and helping to provide food and medical attention for the animals in its care.
Don’t worry, if you happen to miss this round of voting, there’ll be two further opportunities to secure funding for the local charity of your choice later in the year.
